Launch AutoCAD, click in the 'Command' bar at the bottom of the window, type 'Compile,' then press the 'Enter' key. AutoCAD will open up a file browsing window. AutoCAD 2018 uses a new.DWG (drawing file) format, providing improvements in the efficiency of open and save operations. AutoCAD 2018 can open and edit older file format versions 2.x and later, and it can save.DWG formats back to the 1998 version (AutoCAD R14).
